The Electrical Department (ED) is one of the ANPP structural units the main function of which consists in a safe and reliable operation of the whole electrical equipment of the plant.

The Electrical Department includes the following structural units:

• Operating personnel
• Basic diagram laboratory
• Laboratory of high voltage testing and measurements
• Laboratory of auxiliaries
• Laboratory of fire-fighting automatic equipment
• Rotating machinery section
• Integrated cable system
• Switching equipment maintenance section
• Outdoor switchyard and transformer maintenance section
• Section of controlled area electrical equipment maintenance
• Section of ANPP external electrical equipment maintenance
• Laboratory of microprocessor equipment and excitation systems
• Documentation preparation group

These structural units ensure a complete process of developing current and long-term industrial engineering plans for department performance, comprehensive development plans and developing production improvement, as well as improving work organization and organizing activities in the department to upgrade and maintain personnel qualification.

Within the last years Unit 2 life extension activities are being implemented at the ANPP and their significant part was implemented and will be implemented in the Electrical Department.

For this purpose a large scope of work has already been performed, jointly with a number of international organizations, to assess the possibility of the ED major and auxiliary equipment operation and to justify their life extension.

Replacement of the following equipment is scheduled in the framework of the life extension program:

The activities on installation of turbine generator TG-3, its excitation system and transformer T-3 are nearing completion.

In 2019 it is scheduled to perform activities on replacement of turbine generator TG-4 and transformer T-4, 0.4kV, 6kV circuit breakers, the whole uninterruptible power supply equipment, as well as the electrolysis plant СЭУ-20 with new ones.

The replacement of the outdoor switchyard (OS-110/220kV) with a new one is scheduled for 2020. 

The specified activities will allow to improve the level of safety, reliability and efficiency of the operated equipment and to extend Unit 2 life for at least 10 years.
