The Reactor Department (RD) is one of the main structural units of the Armenian NPP the primary functions of which include safe, reliable and efficient operation of the reactor and RD equipment. As is well known, the design lifetime of the ANPP Unit 2 was established to be 30 years, which was due to a lack of operating experience, as well as lack of equipment service life management experience in the past. The international operating practice enabled to review and to extend the ANPP Unit 2 lifetime.    

In this regard, at the ANPP, jointly with a number of international organizations, a large scope of activities aimed at assessment of possibility of RD major and auxiliary equipment further operation and justification of life extension has been implemented.

During outage-2019 in the framework of Life Extension Program the Reactor Department (RD) is implementing the following main activities:

1. full discharge of the spent fuel for reactor vessel survey,
2. reactor upper unit modernization activities,  
3. reactor vessel instrumental survey (by specialists of the Czech company ŠKODA),
4. general overhaul and instrumental survey of 5 main stop valves, the maintenance and survey of the remaining 7 valves were performed in 2016.
5. replacement of the thermal insulation of the primary circuit 2^nd, 3^rd, 6^th circulation loops and the thermal insulation of the pressurizer, the replacement of the thermal insulation of the remaining loops (1^st, 4^th, 5^th) was performed in 2018.
6. Safety systems:

• the localizing spray system was fully upgraded with replacement of the existing old pumps by new ones,
• the pumps of the low-pressure emergency cooldown system were replaced with new ones,

7. replacement of the controlled leakage pumps with new ones.
