«Rusatom Service» Company Activity at the Armenian NPP

In June 2015 according to an intergovernmental agreement a contract was signed between the «Rusatom Service» JSC and «HAEK» CJSC for implementation of activities, supplies and services related to the Armenian NPP Unit 2 life extension. The «Rusatom Service» company is providing services on operation and maintenance. The equipment procurement process was implemented on the basis of a tender in accordance with the Uniform Industry Procurement Standards of the «Rosatom» State Corporation. The technical requirements for the equipment were specified by the ANPP. The deliveries required for the equipment replacement and modernization are being made according to the schedule. We had a conversation with the representatives of the «Rusatom Service» JSC, the progress of the life extension activities was presented. We also discussed the modernization and repair of the generators.

On December 10, 2017 the «Rusatom Service» completed the delivery of the first turbine generator to the ANPP. We had a conversation with the Deputy Head of the Turbine Department on Operation, the Manager of the Condenser Modernization Project Mr. Daniel Danielyan, he accompanied us when we visited the Turbine Department. In the turbine hall in the framework of modernization the 3-rd turbine generator is being replaced with a new one. As a result of this process the active power will increase by 20MW. On the third turbine generator the old and worn-out separator-reheater is being replaced by a new one that will supply drier steam and this will result in extension of the lifetime of the turbine last stage blades. On the 4-th turbine the worn-out condenser has already been replaced with a new condenser manufactured by the «Balcke-Durr» German Company. The operation of the new condenser will ensure a power increase by 1.2MW, as well as a preclusion of unscheduled shut-downs due to non-tightness of condenser pipes. Mr. Danielyan informed us that on the 4-th turbine the old separator-reheater had already been replaced with a modern one.

According to the information of the official website of the «Rosatom» State Nuclear Energy Corporation the transportation of the equipment from the factory in Saint Petersburg was implemented in two stages: by sea till the port of Poti (Georgia) and from there – by surface transport till the ANPP site. The new turbine generator has been installed at the location of the previous one which was manufactured in the 1970s. Together with the turbine generator the auxiliary systems will be replaced as well – it’s one of the specific features of the work performed under the project. It is scheduled to deliver the second turbine generator to the ANPP on 3 December, 2018, and the replacement process will start from 15 April, 2019.

It should be mentioned that with 100% reactor heat power the electric power of each turbine generator will be 236MW. Both turbine generators intended for modernization of the ANPP Unit 2 were manufactured by «Siloviye Mashiny» - a Russian Power Machine Manufacturing Company which is inside the top ten of world leaders according to the scope of the installed equipment.

The loan and the grant provided by the Government of the Russian Federation have enabled the ANPP to perform general overhaul and modernization of the major and auxiliary equipment with a view to extend the ANPP design lifetime, as well as to improve the efficiency of production and the level of safety. The activities will be completed by 2020. Consequently, the plant power will increase from the current 390 MW to 430 MW without an increase in fuel consumption.
