TVEL AND THE ARMENIAN NPP SIGNED CONTRACT DOCUMENTS FOR SUPPLY OF RUSSIAN NUCLEAR FUEL

TVEL JSC and Haykakan Atomayin Elektrakayan CJSC (Armenian NPP) in the person of Natalya Nikipelova and Movses Vardanyan, General Director of the ANPP, signed contract documents for supply of nuclear fuel. Thanks to that contract the ANPP will ensure not only the routine refueling for the next regular plant outage but also will form a reserve of fuel for two years. The contract documents were signed in the course of the visit to Armenia of the ROSATOM’s TVEL fuel company top management representative delegation headed by Natalya Nikipelova, the President of the TVEL JSC.

“The TVEL fuel company made an offer to the Armenian NPP on improvement of energy security and on beneficial commercial terms for nuclear fuel supply thereby confirming the high level of our longstanding partnership and mutual confidence. The NPP plays a critical role in ensuring the country’s power supply, thus it is very important to ensure its secure and continuous operation. In 2016 we made a joint decision on creation of nuclear fuel reserve at the Armenian NPP” – noted Natalya Nikipelova, the President of the TVEL JSC.

The supply of nuclear fuel to the Armenian NPP, which provides up to 40% of the country’s electricity output, constitutes an important aspect of Russian-Armenian cooperation in energy engineering. Russian fuel is being supplied to the Unit 2 with 440MWt installed power (nuclear reactor WWER-440) since 1995. So far no event related to nuclear fuel operation has been recorded.
