CONSECRATION OF A KHACHKAR AT THE ARMENIAN NPP

On 27 September at the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant in the area adjacent to the ANPP military unit a ceremony of a khachkar (cross-stone) consecration took place. The khachkar was installed on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the police troops (PT) formation. The khachkar carved by Benik Babakhanyan was a gift of the commanding officer of the military unit colonel V.Bejanyan to the military unit and the Armenian NPP.

Among the participants of the event were the Deputy Commander of the RA PT on Staff Development (SD) colonel Hayk Babayan, officers of the SD Department, representatives of the ANPP management, managers of territorial law enforcement agencies, military unit staff, ANPP employees and other guests.

The consecration ceremony was held by the Head of Armavir Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church bishop Father Sion Adamyan accompanied by the priest Father Tatev Kirakosyan and the priest Father Tachat Injigulyan.

During the event the commanding officer of the military unit colonel V.Bejanyan expressed his gratitude to those present at the ceremony of consecration of the khachkar, the Armenian symbol of Christianity, and noted that this khachkar symbolizes the readiness of the police troops to serve the Armenian people faithfully both in times of peace and war.

The colonel H.Babayan noted that the khachkars were an integral part of the cultural and religious identity of the Armenian people, in 2010 they were included in the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage subject to an enhanced protection.

In the history of Armenia there were periods of extermination and destruction, horrible atrocities, however, the Armenian people remained steady and showed endurance, love and faith towards life and the Armenian khachkars were the spectators and silent witnesses of all this.
