Visit of the US Government Members and PNNL Representatives to the ANPP

On 3 October, 2019 in the framework of the international assistance program implemented by the USA a delegation consisting of the US Government and PNNL representatives visited the ANPP to discuss the current activities with the ANPP management.

They were welcomed by Movses Vardanyan, General Director of the “HAEK” CJSC. The members of the delegation accompanied by the ANPP management performed a plant walk-down, they visited the Turbine Department and in the field became familiar with the progress of activities on maintenance and modernization, as well as with further actions.

In the full-scope simulator room Vahram Petrosyan, General Director of the «Armatom» Research Institute informed that over the coming two years the development of a full-scope simulator for the Armenian nuclear power plant would be completed. According to him, the development of the full-scope simulator is performed under the support of the US Department of Energy. Its necessity is determined by the demand of time and is aimed at improving the professional skills of the employees of the Armenian NPP. Vahram Petrosyan also spoke about the upgraded repair simulator, the main purpose of which will be the training and retraining of the repair and maintenance personnel of the ANPP, the information support during the operation and repair of plant equipment, enhancing the technical knowledge of personnel and improving working conditions.

Then a meeting was conducted with participation of the Armenian NPP top management and heads of the main departments. M.Vardanyan briefly presented the plant history, provided information on the progress of activities under the Unit 2 life extension program, as well as modernization and replacement activities performed in the Turbine Department.

M.Vardanyan highlighted the activities, aimed at modernization of the ANPP full-scope simulator (FSS), which were being performed under the international program implemented by the USA, he spoke about the future actions.

The General Director also provided information on the programs of activities and actions aimed at safe management of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel, performance of activities related to radioactive waste transportation, processing, storage and disposal. 

The General Director expressed his gratitude to those present and noted that they highly appreciated the support rendered by the USA to the ANPP over many years. It was agreed to continue and deepen the bilateral efficient cooperation in future as well.
