А MEETING WITH THE VETERANS OF THE NUCLEAR POWER INDUSTRY
On 12 April, 2022 a Conference of the International Union of Veterans of Nuclear Energy and Industry (IUVNE) was held at the Armenian NPP. In addition to representatives of the Russian Federation, Belarus and Kazakhstan the IUVNE delegation also included representatives of the “Armenian Union of Nuclear Energy Veterans” public organization headed by the Chairman Suren Azatyan. Representatives of other IUVNE member countries also took part in the meeting remotely.
The purpose of the conference was to discuss both general issues related to nuclear energy and issues of particular importance to the Republic of Armenia. Almost all the members of the union made thematic reports.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the International Union of Veterans, and the Armenian Union of Nuclear Energy Veterans, which has been operating as a legal entity since 2017, has become one of the 11 equal members of the International Union of Veterans. In this respect, the conference was also significant, since a number of dedicated industry specialists from the Armenian side were awarded jubilee commemorative medals.
Currently the Armenian NPP, as an Operating organization, is embarking on the implementation of two most important and responsible projects for our country. These projects are included in the Strategic Program for Development of the Energy Sector of the Republic of Armenia until 2040, namely the ANPP Unit 2 life re-extension and the construction of a new nuclear power unit in the territory of the Republic of Armenia.
At the end of the meeting the parties expressed their hope that thanks to the many years’ rich experience of the union member organizations, the continuing traditions of mutual assistance and, of course, the extensive knowledge of industry experts, it will be possible to identify opportunities and outline clear ways to implement these important projects.
