THE VISIT OF THE US DEPUTY CHIEF OF MISSION TO THE ARMENIAN NPP

On February 8, 2021 the delegation headed by William Laitinen, the US Deputy Chief of Mission to Armenia attended the Armenian NPP. Accompanied by the managers of the ANPP, the visitors first went for a technical tour on the territory of the Armenian NPP to look through the on-going and already implemented activities under the US Government support programs. Since the re-start of the ANPP Unit 2 to this day with the support of the USA, at tha ANPP a number of projects aimed at modernization of the physical protection system and the systems responsible for the plant safe operation have been implemented.

One of the major projects is the full-scope simulator implementation project in the framework of which at the ANPP since 2019 activities funded by the US Department of Energy and related to development of the full-simulator software and of new models for the ANPP operating staff training are being performed with the involvement of relevant specialists of the Western Services Corporation (WSC), “ARMATOM SRI” CJSC and “HAEK” CJSC. Currently, testing and adjustment phase of the models is under implementation, which will be followed by the pre-factory testing activities.

During the meeting that followed, field issues of bilateral interest were discussed. «We appreciate the consistent efforts of the RA Government aimed at ensuring safe operation of the nuclear power plant. It has been three decades that the United States via various safety programs assist Armenia to ensure safe, sustainable and reliable operation»,-emphasized William Laitinen, the US Deputy Chief of Mission.

Expressing his gratitude to the representatives of the US Embassy to Armenia for the comprehensive cooperation, Eduard Martirosyan, the HAEK CJSC Director General,   expressed the hope that the US-Armenian efficient cooperation will continue in the future and will enable to implement new programs and projects aimed at plant safety improvement.
