PARTICIPATION IN THE SESSION OF THE WORLD ASSOCIATION OF NUCLEAR POWER PLANT OPERATING ORGANIZATIONS
The delegation of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, led by the General Director of HAEK CJSC, Eduard Martirosyan, participated in the session of the WANO Strategy, Governance and Nominations Committee held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from September 24 to October 1, 2024. More than 400 participants from 35 countries took part in the session’s activities. Eduard Martirosyan, HAEK CJSC General Director, was re-elected as the Chairman of the Board of the Governors of WANO Moscow Center for the next two years.
The meeting, attended by leadership of the association and the presidents of the five regional centers, discussed several issues regarding WANO membership, the involvement of new members and their support, as well as introducing certain justified changes to this process. During the discussions, the valuable role of the association was highlighted in ensuring the safe operation of power units and optimizing their operational lifespan.
The Global Forum of Technical Directors/Chief Engineers was also held, with the participation of the Chief Engineer of the Armenian NPP, Artur Grigoryan, aiming to make a significant contribution to the future safe operation of nuclear power plants. Within the framework of the aforementioned forum, sessions were held dedicated to important topics, such as the “Path to Excellence” initiative, “Reduction of Significant Events”, “Sector Working Group Activities”, “Accountability for Performance Indicators and Enhanced Monitoring” and others.
A Youth Movement Forum was also held, dedicated to the future generation, their development and the formation of strong, knowledgeable professionals in the nuclear sector. The Forum was attended by Yervand Stepanyan, the Chief Specialist of the Armenian NPP’s Lifetime Extension and Resource Department and the Head of Youth Movement.
The participation of the Armenian delegation in WANO’s 2024 General Assembly is of significant importance for both the development of Armenia’s nuclear sector and international cooperation and knowledge exchange. As a member of WANO, the Nuclear Power Plant actively participates in global efforts to ensure nuclear safety. The Armenian Nuclear Power Plant which provides a significant portion of the country’s electricity, adheres to international safety standards and is ready to share its experience and successful projects. The representatives of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant assisted newcomer countries in nuclear energy to understand how these states can ensure nuclear safety while continuing to improve.
