SUPPORT MISSION AT THE ARMENIAN NUCLEAR POWER PLANT
At the request of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant (ANPP) a support mission on the topic of “Independent Oversight and Monitoring” was conducted by WANO Moscow Center from September 16 to 24, 2024. The following experts participated in the activities of the support mission:
- Oleg Semenenko (Adviser, WANO Moscow center, Russia);
- Pavel Medvedev (Deputy Chief Inspector-Chief Inspector of “Rosenergoatom Concern” JSC, Russia)
- Alexey Tarushko ( Head of Technical Inspection Department, Belarusian NPP, Belarus)
- Sirus Shirzadi (Head of Independent Oversight Department, NPPD, Iran)
The objectives of the support mission:
- conducting an external expert assessment of the state of corporate oversight and monitoring at the Armenian NPP.
- improving the effectiveness of internal oversight and monitoring conducted at the Armenian NPP.
- enhancing the effectiveness of independent oversight of nuclear safety and operational management conducted by HAEK CJSCm as well as developing recommendations for the company's management regarding the improvement of production activities.
- obtaining information and recommendations on conducting independent oversight within the existing management structure of HAEK CJSC.
During the mission the participants discussed the following issues:
- the typical composition and structure of the independent oversight department/division of the NPP operating organization and technical inspection.
- the typical interactions between the organization's Independent Oversight Department/Division and the NPP Technical Inspection.
- the typical functions and reponsibilities of the Independent Oversight Department/Division of the operating organization.
During the final meeting with the management of the Armenian NPP, the experts presented recommendations for improving the NPP's activities in the field of independent oversight and monitoring.
