PARTICIPATION IN THE 68TH SESSION OF THE IAEA GENERAL CONFERENCE
On September 16-18 of this year, Eduard Martirosyan, HAEK CJSC General Director, and Movses Vardanyan, First Deputy General Director of the company, participated in the 68th session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference held in Vienna as part of the delegation led by H. Vardanyan, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the Republic of Armenia.
Within the framework of the General Assembly, H. Vardanyan and the delegation met Rafael Mariano Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). During the meeting they specifically discussed the plans for extension the operational lifetime of the Armenian NPP and transitioning to new capacities, as well as cooperation with the IAEA in this regard.
The Armenian delegation has held around two dozen meetings with international partners.
The Deputy Minister delivered a national statement, presenting, in particular, the priorities of cooperation with the IAEA, Armenia’s commitments in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy, ongoing activities, and upcoming programs. In his speech H. Vardanyan emphasized the undeniable importance and effectiveness of Armenia’s cooperation with various IAEA structures in almost all aspects of the agency’s activities.
Working meetings were organized with specialized divisions of the IAEA.
In addition to the plenary sessions, planned within the conference program, a series of consultations and negotiations were held, during which numerous high-priority issues were discussed.
Within the framework of the conference, the Armenian delegation met representatives of the European Commission to discuss the implementation of more complex and long-term measures aimed at ensuring the proper level of safety at the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant
The 68th regular session of the IAEA General Conference reaffirmed the Agency's important role in promoting the peaceful use of nuclear energy, ensuring strong standards for safety, security and non-proliferation. Member States reaffirmed their commitment to using nuclear science and technology for sustainable development goals and addressing global challenges. The outcomes of this session outlined a clear roadmap for the IAEA's future priorities, focusing on innovation, collaboration and the safe expansion of nuclear energy.
